In this fascinating course, our masterclass instructor and professional recording artist, “AC” brings together the rich heritage of South Indian Classical (Carnatic) Music with the Blues tradition of the US to present a unique and creative approach to improvisation. After his studies at Cornish College of the Arts, AC’s travels took him to India, where his expertise and knowledge earned him the role of head guitar instructor at Mumbai's renowned True School of Music. Latin Jazz and Improvisation

Global travel has often been responsible for the emergence of new forms of art that are unique and yet rooted in tradition. This session navigates the intersection of Afro-Latin music and American Jazz which blended to become the compelling sounds of Latin Jazz. Here to guide you through an experiential, is Roy McGrath. A native of Puerto Rico, recording artist, and DCASE grant awardee, Roy will demonstrate improvisation techniques with African polyrhythm, two of the most essential elements to Latin Jazz.
A Musical Geography of Mexico

Mexico's folk music and dance styles are very diverse but largely unknown outside of Mexico.
Different regions of the country have unique instruments, repertoire and techniques which lead to the unique musical styles of son jarocho, son huasteco, gusto, son istmefio and many many others.
For this session, two time GRAMMY nominated guitarist Juan Dies of Sones de Mexico Ensemble, a specialist in these regional styles, will be your guide throughout this special lecture.
